A traffic control center or traffic management facility is a centralized location where traffic signals, surveillance cameras, message signs, emergency information and real-time data can all be monitored. By continuously auditing the flow of traffic along major arterials traffic control centers are able to identify accidents, lane closures, road construction, signal malfunctions, and other incidents in a timely manner. A space where police, emergency manager, transportation departments and highway patrols can all communicate with each other the traffic control center not only anticipates traffic problems before they happen, reacts in real time but also helps plan for future transportation projects and traffic management improvements making it one of most important aspects of traffic design.
